Our friends at Falls Church Presbyterian Church have published this article about our growing friendship and ministry together. We give thanks for Lee Corey and for her service of love and hospitality.
Have you noticed the beautiful garden developed over the past couple of years in front of the church’s bell tower? The garden is a gift from Lee Corey of the Falls Church Episcopal congregation and is meant to be a lasting monument to an enduring and very special friendship between our two congregations.
When Lee first conceived of her idea, the current garden site was shaded by two large trees, and thus she planned a shade garden. With the loss of one tree, she re-configured the garden to a half-shade, half-sun garden. With the loss of the second tree, the garden has become a full-sun garden. Lee amended the soil with large quantities of manure, top soil, and leaf mold which help sustain the wide variety of perennials she has planted– forest roses; azaleas; hydrangeas; cone flowers; coral bells; irises; lilies; hostas; liriope; Black-eyed Susans; bee balm; lavender; Scotch broom; moonbeam coreopsis; golden creeping jenny; and wood violets, among others. She replaced one tree with a weeping cherry and hopes to add daffodils and tulips this fall for spring color. Lee planned the garden to have something in bloom from March through October, and she adds seasonal annuals for additional color and textural interest.
Most Sundays Lee can be found in the Fellowship Hall kitchen preparing for the post-Service coffee hour. Please take a moment to thank her for this heart-felt labor of love and act of friendship.
