About Us

jesusWe are a congregation of believers in Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life. Our theology is always informed by listening to Holy Scripture, the traditions of the church, human reason, and the experience of Christians discerned in community.

Our theology is both Orthodox and Open, and we seek to exercise this theology, not through conflict or denominationalism, but through service to our neighbors.

For us, Jesus’ words are paramount. His commandment summarizes and describes our life together: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind…[and] you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

We believe that all Christians are called to unity under one Lord, and our unity is Christ, not a conformity of opinion. As we continue to discern the presence and will of God, we pray for this unity, that our witness to the world would not be one of strife, but one of love.

We are a Worship-Centered community, gathering weekly to be fed and nourished by the experience of God in community.

You may know us from reading about us, by driving by the Historic Church, or from any number of other ways.

Perhaps you’re seeking a place to worship and to call home, or perhaps you’re searching for some answers to life’s perplexing questions.

However or whyever it is that you’ve come, we thank you.

With our thanks, we ask that you take the time to know us – not from what others might be saying, but by experiencing the genuine love of God in Jesus Christ that you’ll find by simply stopping by.

Falls_ChurchWe claim the identity of The Falls Church, and believe that our isolation from the historic church of our ancestors is not an honor to God, nor is it a Christian act.  Rather, we believe that our isolation is a product of a church culture that misinterprets Scripture, understanding division and schism to be the holy response to disagreement.  We believe that God has called us to witness to Truth – that by rejecting us and isolating our members from their rightful place of worship, Christian unity suffers in every corner of Christendom. Further, through the application of what we, and nearly every other Christian denomination in the Commonwealth of Virginia, believe to be an unconstitutional law, we have been forced to abide by an illegitimate vote, and to leave our home parish.

After quickly outgrowing the living room of one of our members, we have been welcomed to share space with the Falls Church Presbyterian Church. Because of our welcoming and loving spirit we are a growing congregation, with opportunities to experience the love of God in Jesus Christ permeating our life together.

Our mission is to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to those in our neighborhood and beyond by witnessing to God’s power to create JOY even in the midst of pain. Our primary gathering, each week, is our worship service, followed by a festive fellowship time.

Despite how we have come together, we do not seek to be agents of conflict.  Rather, we have been called together for such a time as this – that we may proclaim the peace and reconciliation that can only be found in the heart of God. Ultimately, this is what we seek – reconciliation with those from whom we are estranged and the unified witness to the Gospel that can only come through worship.  Today, tomorrow, or some day soon – this is our prayer. We wish to return to our home parish, where the bones of our ancestors are buried, where our children were baptized, and where many of us celebrated our marriages.

In the mean time, we are committed to remaining faithful to both our Episcopal roots and to the Anglican Communion. We give thanks for those who have supported us, and we give thanks to God for this opportunity to be a witness of His love.
